It’s no secret that we are big burger fans! While I love a classic burger, I love finding ways to add flavor and mix things up when burger night rolls around.

This BBQ burger recipe is no exception! Mix smoky and sweet BBQ sauce into the ground beef before forming patties for an extra pop of flavor in every bite. Serve them on buns with all of your favorite toppings!

My favorite way to cook burgers is on the outdoor grill, but you can also make these on a grill pan or skillet on the stovetop. Add a little oil to your pan and let it get hot before cooking the burgers on each side.

Can I make these burgers with other meats?

I love using ground beef for these BBQ burgers, but you can make them with ground chicken or turkey if you prefer. Chicken and turkey have less fat, so they won’t be quite as juicy but they’ll still be delicious.

Should I preheat my grill?

For perfectly cooked burgers, oil the grates and preheat the grill while you prepare the burger patties. Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic diced
  • 3 tablespoons onion diced
  • 2 tablespoon barbecue sauce plus more for brushing
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon steak seasoning
  • Hamburger buns for serving
  • Sliced cheese, lettuce, tomato, and your favorite burger toppings for serving

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix all burger ingredients together until just combined.

  • Shape the meat into 4 equal-sized patties. Use your thumb to make an indentation in the center of each patty.

  • Grill the burgers over medium-high heat for 3-5 minutes on each side, until they reach your desired doneness.
  • During the last minute of cooking, brush the tops of the burgers with a little more barbecue sauce. If topping the burgers with cheese, add the cheese and allow it to slightly melt.

Grill: Use a grill pan, outdoor grill, or even foreman style grill to cook these burgers. If using a foreman style grill, cook the burgers for a shorter amount of time as there is no need to flip them.
