How long does the simple syrup keep?

Once the simple syrup has cooled, transfer it to a sealable jar or bottle and it will keep refrigerated for up to 1 week. If I’m not going to be using it immediately or the same day, I like to store it with the lemon peel and ginger to give it more time for the flavors to infuse.

This simple syrup it’s incredibly delicious with pretty much any cocktail. It’s slightly zesty and spicy and the honey gives it a delicate floral undertone that elevates any drink.

Can you make the margaritas ahead of time?

These cranberry margaritas are a great make ahead pitcher cocktail. Make the whole drink in the pitcher, but omit the ice.

Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap and it will keep well in the fridge for up to two days.

How to garnish

No margarita is complete without a salt rim, it works so well with the tangy flavors from the cranberry and lemon juice. Rub a lemon wedge around the top of each glass, and then dip into salt.

I also like to finish it with a sprig of mint for some color and freshness.

Tips!

  • Don’t add ice to your pitcher until you are ready to serve the cocktail. Adding ice too early will dilute the drink. Alternatively, you can pour the cocktail over ice.
  • Let the simple syrup cool completely before adding it to the other ingredients.
  • I like to make these cranberry margaritas with Cointreau for a stronger orange flavor, but you can use triple sec if that’s what you have.
